Remembering Bo "Coach" Wilson
April 16, 1936 – April 9, 2017
The life of Henry Carl "Bo" Wilson was a rich tapestry, woven from his service as a United States Marine and threaded with three enduring loves: his devotion to family, his passion for Texas high school football, and his lifelong work as a landman, serving mineral owners and communities across East Texas.
Bo's journey wove in and out of these callings, each stage shaping the man and the legacy he left behind.

Football: Texas Friday Nights
Bo Wilson's coaching career stretched across decades and left an indelible mark on Texas high school football.
- • In 1978, he led Troup High School all the way to the state championship, a season still remembered with pride.
- • He later guided the Bullard Panthers, where he coached his son Ryan alongside many grateful young men.
- • His capstone came at Bishop Thomas K. Gorman High School in Tyler, where he led the Crusaders to the 1990 Texas state championship, a moment that cemented his place in East Texas football history.
For Bo, coaching was never just about the scoreboard. It was about shaping lives, instilling discipline, building character, and giving young athletes lessons they carried far beyond the field.
The Landman's Calling
Between coaching seasons, Bo returned to work as a landman, another calling he loved. He built and managed Wilson Land Services, helping mineral owners understand and protect their interests.
Even the oil bust of the 1980s couldn't shake his persistence. When the energy world stalled, Bo stepped back onto the sidelines to coach again. Later, he returned to the land business, working alongside his son Ryan to provide trusted guidance in an industry he knew inside and out.
Family at the Center
Above all, Bo was a family man. He shared a lifelong marriage with his wife Penny, raised his children Christie and Ryan with love, and celebrated the joy of grandchildren. His home was filled with stories, laughter, and the values of faith, service, and integrity.
Those who knew him remember his storytelling most of all: his ability to take any moment and turn it into a lesson, a laugh, or a memory worth holding onto.
A Legacy That Lives On
Bo Wilson's life was measured not in wins and losses, but in the lives he touched as a husband, father, coach, mentor, and landman.
He remains a part of the East Texas landscape: in the families he served, in the athletes he inspired, and in the lessons passed down through his children and grandchildren.
"The measure of a coach is not in the games won, but in the lives changed."
Forever in our hearts, Coach.
